Michael D. Gaffney

Mr. Gaffney joined Nixon & Vanderhye in 2008. His practice is focused on patent infringement litigation. He has been involved in litigation in the Federal Districts Courts, the International Trade Commission, the United States Courts of Appeal, the United States Supreme Court, various state courts, and arbitration proceedings.

Mr. Gaffney has over twenty years of litigation experience. In addition to patent infringement matters, he has represented corporate and individual clients in a variety of civil cases including trademark, copyright, and trade secrets actions.

Prior to law school, Mr. Gaffney served as Deputy Assistant Clerk of the District Court of Essex County, Massachusetts. During law school, he was a legal assistant in the Massachusetts Attorney General's office, and served on the editorial board of the Suffolk Law Review. Following law school, Mr. Gaffney served as Judicial Law Clerk to the Hon. Joseph P. Nolan at the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court in Boston. Prior to joining Nixon & Vanderhye, Mr. Gaffney worked as special litigation counsel in Washington D.C. for New York and Boston-based law firms.

Mr. Gaffney is a member of the bars of the District of Columbia and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association. He is not admitted to practice in Virginia.
